DECOMMISSIONING PLANNING
Client:
British Nuclear Group, Magnox Reactor Sites
Description:
Nuclear Technologies (NT), have supported British Nuclear Group’s Project
Services and Reactor Site Services in developing BDPs, LCBL & NTWPs at
sites including, Berkeley, Oldbury, Trawsfynydd, Calder Hall, Chapelcross,
Hinkley Point, Hunterston ‘A’ and Dungeness ‘A’.
BASELINE DECOMMISSIONING PLANS (BDP)
Nuclear Technologies have been contracted to prepare Work
Package Sheets 3 and 6 for facilities on several Magnox Reactor
sites as part of the BDP process. Using the experience and
knowledge of NT staff an optioneering study is produced to
determine the preferred technical approach and decommissioning
strategy. From this, the strategy of project activities required
to decommission the facility are identified with budget and
timescale estimates made of resources required and the amounts
and types of waste that will result.
LIFECYCLE BASELINE (LCBL)
Nuclear Technologies are supporting British Nuclear Group
Reactor Site Services in the production of their LCBL plans.
As part of the Central Support Team, employees have been
responsible for the production of Scope documents describing
decommissioning plans for the entire fleet of Magnox power
stations. In addition they have collated waste data volumes
for all sites and produced ‘alternative’ versions
of LCBLs to satisfy the security requirements of the Office
of Civil Nuclear Security and commercial requirements stipulated
by British Nuclear Groups commercial function. Guidance Notes
have also been prepared for the preparation of future LCBLs
that satisfy Security and Commercial requirements. NT staff
have contributed to ‘Lessons Learnt’ and ‘Gap
Analysis’ events to assist in the future production
of LCBLs that are considered by the customer to be ‘Best
in Class’.
NEAR TERM WORK PLANS (NTWP)
Nuclear Technologies are supporting British Nuclear Group
in the production of their NTWP (NTWP 2005) in preparation
for transfer of site ownership to the NDA on the 1st April
2005. With the experience gained from last years NTWP, LCBL
and BDP, NT staff have been making a very positive contribution
to the production of NTWP 2005. NT have been closely liaising
with site personnel to produce the Scope Element (SE) documents
which describe in detail all work activities to take place
on the site for the next three years. Following on from the
SE documents, NT staff, in collaboration with site staff,
have been condensing the information contained within the
SE’s to produce the final document package consisting
of NTWP Detailed Volumes, Category Summary and Site Summary
documents. |
