Description:
A BPEO study to assess the various alternatives for a shore-based facility
to collect, store and treat all primary and secondary liquid effluents arising
from the commissioning and initial refurbishment of the new Astute Class submarines
at Barrow Shipyard, Cumbria.
Scope of service supplied
The BPEO study was prepared as above and in addition, a
number of documents were prepared summarising the information
required to support the company's submission to the Environmental
Agency for a revision to their Discharge Authorisation under
RSA 93.
This work considered current legislation and guidance principles,
Discharge Authorisations and waste strategies in addition
to the impacts of changes and developments in future legislation
(e.g. OSPAR, IPPC) and the UK Strategy for Radioactive Discharges
2001-2020.
