WASTE MANAGEMENT CONSULTANCY SERVICES CONTRACT TO THE ACTIVE
WASTE VAULTS RETRIEVAL (AWVR) PROJECT

Description:
The AWVR project involves the retrieval and packaging of
the operational waste stored on the Berkeley Decommissioning
Site. To ensure that the ILW and LLW are effectively managed
and packaged to meet the Nirex requirements a number of studies
have been undertaken.
Scope of service supplied
The following packages of work have been undertaken:

A
review of the waste management strategy for the AWVR project
-
Preparation
of procedures for trials to evaluate the waste processing
system in the AWVR process cell including the vibro table
and assay system.

Evaluation of the results of the
waste processing system trials.
-
Preparation of Stage
1 and 2 Nirex Letter of Comfort submissions for the mobile
and the solid waste streams.

Preparation BPEO studies
for the treatment and disposal of mobile and solid wastes
including facilitating optioneering meetings and preparing
summary reports for submission to the Environmental Agency.

Undertaking
a HAZard APpraisal (HAZAP) study for the mobile and solid
waste streams.

Preparation and
maintaining waste datasheets derived from the HAZAP study
to ensure that the waste properties are allowed for in
the design.

Participation in optioneering assessments
for the identification of the preferred options for processing
the mobile waste.

Preparation of guidance for BPM
studies for the mobile and solid waste streams.
