CIDAS OMISSION CASE FOR B462 WASTE HANDLING COMPLEX

Provisions of specialist advice to UKAEA Harwell on the potential requirements for CIDAS within all areas of the B462 waste handling complex, and production of CIDAS omission cases where possible.

Scope of service supplied

The B462 waste-handling complex at UKAEA Harwell handles and stores a large quantity of fissile material. Using currently accepted industry criteria for CIDAS omission, consideration was given to the justification for CIDAS omission from all areas of the B462 complex. A combination of plant visits and analysis of current criticality safety assessments and clearance certificates were used to form the basis of the omission case.

The project also involved a review of the requirement for CIDAS for the storage of fissile material from the B23 Fissile Material Store at UKAEA Winfrith in B528.4, UKAEA Harwell. Input from Nuclear Technologies’ personnel was required to demonstrate the feasibility of storage of this material on the Harwell site.
