Nuclear Technologies routinely provide support to Nirex assessments of submissions for Letters of Comfort. Nuclear Technologies undertake Nature and Quantity of Waste, Wasteform and Non-nuclear Environmental assessments of submissions, as well as providing specialist advice on specific issues raised by assessments.


In addition, Nuclear Technologies provides support to Nirex's own forward work programme. Examples of work carried out include:

    • Reviews of the use of hydraulic fluids and paints in the UK nuclear industry.

    • Assessment of novel encapsulants for ILW.

    • Input to discussions on carbon-14 release from activated metals and the management of ion exchange resins.
