Safety Case Preparation and

Contracts include:

AWE

In 2001, Nuclear Technologies was awarded a Term Contract for Safety Consultancy Services at AWE Aldermaston, particularly concentrating on the management of nuclear material movements. This has been extended to include the provision of safety advice and documentation to support the development of safety cases for various decommissioning and plant refurbishment projects.


British Nuclear Group

Provision of a nuclear Safety Case Engineer at Oldbury Training Centre for the PassPort Replacement Programme (PRP). PassPort is an off-line system that supports the management of delivery of the maintenance schedule and control of parts/consumables that are to be used on safety related plant and other areas. PassPort is used at Berkeley, Bradwell, Dungeness A, Hinkley Point A, Oldbury, Sizewell, Trawsfynydd and Wylfa. Following successful roll-out of this new services, this has led to Safety Case support to the PassPort Support Group for ongoing support of PassPort. This has involved project management activities and delivering safety case related information to all sites, internal governance bodies and also the NII. Other work has involved safety assessments for the effect of a recent SAP upgrade.

Provision of Safety Case Support for the British Nuclear Group Emergency Planning Group. This involved preparing an NSRS and associated safety report that justified the replacement of the current British Nuclear Group Emergency Communication Services, and their removal, following successful demonstration of a new service based on the O2-Airwave system. This new 'Nuclear Industry Airwave System' is based on the same technology (TETRA) and network (O2-Airwave) that is used by the UKs emergency services. Further consultancy has been provided to the sites with respect to individual site modifications.

UKAEA

Nuclear Technologies supports UKAEA in a broad raft of safety-related tasks. In 1998, the company was awarded a continuing Term Contract for Scientific Consultancy Services from Dounreay, against which numerous orders have been placed.

In addition Nuclear Technologies Safety Group has been involved in contracts for:

UK NIREX LTD
Safety work carried out for Nirex includes a project to strengthen the link between the Nirex Phased Disposal Concept and the ILW waste packaging performance criteria. This work included the development and rewrite of the UK ILW waste packaging specification and guidance.

BRITISH ENERGY GENERATION LTD

The following are recent and current contracts that Nuclear Technologies are carrying out for British Energy Generation Ltd:

  • Services of Radiation Protection Advisor

  • General Technical Support to Radwaste & Decommissioning Group. This included a review of Hinkley Point B Radioactive Waste Safety Case, replicating where applicable the Hunterston B deterministic FEA, frequency analysis and associated radiological consequences for Hinkley Point B radioactive waste plant. Identification of any Hinkley Point B Radwaste Plant not covered by an existing FEA. This included undertaking a new FEA, frequency analysis and radiological consequence assessment for the affected Hinkley Point B Radwaste Plant.

 

DEVONPORT ROYAL DOCKYARD LTD:

A team of highly respected Safety Case experts are subcontracted to Devonport Royal Dockyard Ltd (DRDL), Plymouth.
